Q: Is Asian skin typically drier or oilier?

Asians in general are no more oily than non-Asians but acording to dermatologists, Asian American women tend to have oilier skin than recent Asian immigrants. Some dermatologists blame this on higher fat content in our diet. It is common knowledge that diet does not directly affect skin condition, except when it is poor enough to affect one’s overall health. Unexpected pimples may signal stress, hormonal imbalance, or internal health problems.

And too much unhealthy food consumption can appear to affect acne breakouts by contributing to an overall physiological imbalance which in turn will cause an increase in the skin’s oil production which can cause acne breakouts.

Thanks for the fact. I have combination skin and have always been envious to non-asians who have perfect moisturized, even skin. However, I do try to eat healthy. In fact, most of the food I eat is not typical Asian food. In addition to that, I am part French. So I do think the greater part of oily skin comes from your genes. Asian skin is different no matter how healthy I eat. On my blog www.asianmakeupdiaries.com, I do product reviews to help Asian women sift through the overwhelming number of products out there that are not focused specifically on Asian skin.
